NC Public Power
Public power is municipally-owned and operated electric service. More than 70 communities in North Carolina serve more than 500,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers. These communities are collectively known as NC Public Power.
NCEMPA consists of 32 cities and towns in eastern North Carolina, including some of the largest cities in the region, that own and operate their electric systems. NCEMPA was formed in 1982 and provides wholesale power to its 32 Participants.
NCMPA1 consists of 19 cities and towns in piedmont and western North Carolina, including some of the largest areas of economic growth. NCMPA1 owns a portion of the Catawba Nuclear Station, operated by Duke Energy. NCMPA1 provides wholesale power to its 19 Participants.
ElectriCities is the service organization that provides customer service and safety training, emergency and technical assistance, communications, government affairs and legal services to public power communities. ElectriCities provides management services to the state's two municipal power agencies: NCMPA1 and NCEMPA.
