All power, no bull at the 50th annual NCAMES conference and lineman’s rodeo

The North Carolina Association of Municipal Electric Systems (NCAMES) held its 50th annual conference at the Greenville Convention Center May 16-18. Events included the popular lineman’s rodeo, the annual meeting, vendor presentations and workshops.


Mike Hyland, from the American Public Power Association (APPA) was the guest speaker at the evening event. He gave a presentation on “Developing a Culture of Safety,” defining safety, providing some background history of APPA and the RP3 Program.  Hyland discussed trends and benchmarking among utilities, stating, “The safer you are, the more reliable you are.”
Mike Byrd from ElectriCities spoke further on safety, particularly among municipals. He then presented safety awards to 46 cities who achieved no lost-work days for the calendar year.
