The award recognizes individual contributions throughout a lifetime of service to local electric systems, NC Public Power and public power nationwide. The award is given based on leadership, public power service, innovation and creativity and longevity of service to public power.

“Mayor Hayes is a friend to North Carolina Municipal Power Agency 1 and to ElectriCities and has lent his talents and abilities to public power for many years,” said Jennie Stultz, mayor of Gastonia and chairman of the ElectriCities Board of Directors.
